This is now a past outing .. like to read about it?
The JULY Weekday Walk will be to a section of the Clyde Walkway on TUESDAY 26th .. walking from Baron's Haugh at Airbles to the David Livingston Centre in Blantyre.
We'll be passing by the Roman Bath House, the Fun Fair in Strathclyde Country Park, walking over the Raith footbridges, following an old railway line through Bothwell and finally crossing a suspension bridge over the Clyde to the DLC.
We'll start by taking the train from Blantyre to Airbles, so either park at the station .. or park at the David Livingston Centre (location details below) and walk 10 minutes uphill to the station .. in good time to board the 10.19 train to Cumbernauld.
Satnavs: G72 9BY
Maps: GR NS695585
We'll alight at Airbles 12mins and 3 stops later .....
From Airbles, we'll turn left past the Electric Bar then immediately left to pick up a path between the railway and the houses to a footbridge over the railway then turn right and follow a path down to the Clyde Walkway. We'll follow the Clyde Walkway to Strathclyde Country Park and we'll take the path on the east side of the loch. Leaving the park we'll use the footbridges over the road junctions to get to Laighlands Road in Bothwell. From here, there's a bit of walking through some residential areas via Olifard Avenue, crossing Fallside Road to Hume Drive and finally Barbae Place, where we can pick up the path on the old railway line. Finally, we'll follow Blantyre Mill Road down to the suspension bridge across the Clyde and on the other side of the river is our destination .. the David Livingston Centre, and it does have a cafe.
The train stations are marked by the dotted purple lines .. click for a printable version ....
Walk distance is about 10km (6 miles), with 80m total ascent, and likely time of a leisurely 3-3.5 hours ....
If you're going on this walk, please let me know by Monday 25th July so that I knew who to expect .. !
