This is now a past outing .. like to read about it?

The AUGUST Weekday Walk will be on WEDNESDAY 28th with a return to Chatelherault Country Park .. last visited in April 2021 following a combined route as our first post-lockdown walk.

We'll meet at the notice board outside the Oaks Cafe at the Visitor Centre at 10am .. then follow the Green Bridge Trail.

Chatelherault is just off the A72 Hamilton to Lanark road, and there's plenty of car parking available below the Visitor Centre, leaving a very short stroll to the meeting point above.

We'll head off in a south-south easterly direction from the meeting point, on the path following the edge of Riccarton Golf Course and high above the Avon gorge. After about 3km, the trail descends steeply down some winding steps to the Green Bridge.

Once over the timber constructed bridge, the path takes a gradual climb and now follows the west side of the gorge through broad-leaved woodland and continues through Divoty Glen towards the site of the ancient Oaks and Iron Age earthworks. The trail now heads past the remains of Cadzow Castle and down over the Dukes Bridge, then there's a gradual climb back to the Visitor Centre.

The route is about 8km (5miles) with total ascent of about 200m and likely time of around 3 hours depending on walking rate and any stops.

Post-walk refreshments could be taken at the Oaks Cafe ....

If you would like to go on this walk please let me know by Tuesday 27th August.
