The first post-lockdown outing of the Weekday Walkers will be on TUESDAY 27 APRIL.
This is now a past outing .. like to read about it?
We'll meet outside the Oaks Cafe at the Visitor Centre at Chatelherault Country Park at 10am .. then follow a combination of the Monument and Mineral Railway walks.
We'll follow the marker posts from the Visitor Centre to cross the Dukes Bridge then go up past the ruins of Cadzow Castle and continue beside the old oak meadow. Look out for a big horse but don't worry, he does'nt move much. When the path meets the Barncluith Road, we'll go down the road and the Dukes Monument is on the right near the road but well hidden by trees. We'll return by the outward route (mostly) to cross the Dukes Bridge and turn right towards the Visitor Centre. Halfway up the hill, we'll take the Hoolet Row Path on the right then take a sharp right where it meets the Mineral Railway Path. We'll follow the path beside the River Avon through the gorge to the Old Avon Bridge, passing under the Dukes Bridge and below the Dukes Monument on the way. From the bridge, we'll follow the road for a short distance then take the path uphill on the right, passing the three historical figures at the top and back to the start point.
Post-walk refreshments may be available at the Oaks Cafe ....
If you're going on this walk, please let me know by Monday 26th April so that I know who to expect ..!
Willie Robison, April Weekday Organiser
