Weekend Trip to Ballater from
Friday 19 to Sunday 21 July 2019

Local map required is LandRanger 44 Ballater, Glen Clova & surrounding area,
but if you're going further afield you may need others ....

General

The July weekend trip will be a return to Ballater.  The proposal is to travel up on the Friday, and for the those not working, the drive up will offer plenty of stop-offs for a walk.

Saturday will be the main walking day, and the area has a large number of walking and cycling options, together with sightseeing.

Detail

Munros: the five White Mounth Munros.

Corbetts: Morven.

Grahams: Geallaig.

Travel

Travel will be by car to suit individual plans and arrival times for the Friday.  Car sharing will be organised a few days beforehand.

Accommodation

The area is pretty expensive for accommodation during July and August but I have two suggestions.

Ballater Hostel currently has a range of rooms, including superior double rooms, which have private bathrooms, towels, tvs, etc at £60.50 per person for the weekend or a 4-bedded room which if fully occupied would cost £43.50 per person for the weekend.

The hostel has a fully fitted kitchen, sitting and dining area, plus bike store, but does have a strange arrangement, where you cannot check in until 5pm and you must leave the hostel between the hours of 10am and 4pm during your stay, so no popping back early from your walk on the Saturday.

Alternatively and just around the corner is the Deeside Inn, a lovely hotel we stayed in a couple of years back, which has rooms starting at £126.72 per person for the weekend Bed and Breakfast.

What next?

I haven’t booked any of these accommodations yet, so not to miss out, please contact me as soon as possible, letting me know if you want to stay in the hostel or the hotel. The hostel requires an initial 10% non-refundable deposit.
