Weekend Trip to Newtonmore from
Friday 12 to Sunday 14 January 2018

Possible maps required are LandRanger 35 Kingussie & Monadhliath Mountains, and
36 Grantown, Aviemore & cairngorm area, but you may need others if you travel further afield.

This is now a past outing.  Like to read about it?

Our first weekend trip of 2018 will be a return visit to the Newtonmore Hostel, which we last visited in 2016.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to ensure exclusive access to the hostel, the date has been moved forward by one week from the original programme.

Newtonmore is easily accessible from the A9 and so we should have a good chance of getting to the hostel even if the snow has arrived by that time in January, and the town provides easy access to the Cairngorms, Monadhliath and Laggan hills with their associated Munros and Corbetts. For lower level walkers, there is a wide range of routes available in the area including the “Wildcat Trail” around Newtonmore, The East Highland Way and many other routes within the Cairngorm National Park.

There are 10 places available at the Newtonmore Hostel which will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis .. there's one twin room and two rooms which sleep up to 4.

The hostel phone number is 01540 673360.

Travel will be by car pool, to suit individual plans for the Friday.  Car sharing and any hill plans for the Friday can be discussed if necessary a few days beforehand.  If you have any specific plans, please let me know in your e-mail so I can inform other members.

Any transport costs will be covered by passengers coming to an arrangement with the driver.  If you’re prepared to drive, please let me know.

Outline Plan

There are plenty of walking opportunities in this area and the final decisions will probably be made over a drink the night before. Nearer the time we can decide whether members wish to organise a communal meal on the Saturday night.

We'll be staying at the Newtonmore Hostel, as detailed above. If we can fill the hostel, the cost will be £20 per person per night (including bedding) but the club will subsidise the accommodation to a price of £35 per adult for the two nights.  Please remember to bring a towel!

What next?

If you're interested in this trip, please email me as soon as possible and no later than 22nd September. This will let me know whether we can confirm our exclusive booking for the full hostel.

Hope to see you at Newtonmore.
