Special Winter Backpacking Weekend
from Friday 11 to
Sunday 13 March 2022
Maps required to be decided!
This is now a past outing .. like to read about it?
General
Checking the MBA Bothy Website, the mountain bothies are once again open for business .. provided visitors follow the advice on their website www.mountainbothies.org.uk
This weekend trip involves a two night stay at a bothy for some remote walking and an evening sing-song around the fire. Camping is also an option in the near vicinity, depending on space in the bothy and individual preferences. The proposal is to drive up on the Friday morning, park the cars and walk into the bothy. This will hopefully give us relatively easy access to some remote hills on the Saturday.
We will walk out again sometime on Sunday for the drive back home.
To reduce the chance of a busy bothy, we could consider a one night trip (Friday/Saturday) or move the trip back a day so we stay on the Thursday and Friday nights. Taking a tent may also be wise. If interested please let me know.
Detail
It is appreciated that the weather will play a big part on whether we travel to a remote bothy. However, if it becomes apparent the weather is going to be severe over the weekend then a bothy closer to home can be considered .. the key is to be flexible.
All provisions for the weekend will have to be carried in as there are no shops or tearooms at these bothies! Don’t forget to leave room in your rucksack for a drink or two!!
Please let me have your suggestions for a bothy you'd like to visit, including the proposed walk-in route. I can then collate these proposals and provide a shortlist to everyone interested. A final decision can then be made 2 or 3 days before we travel.
Travel
Travel will be by car to suit individual plans and arrival times for the Friday. Car sharing will be organised a few days before we go.
Accommodation
The accommodation will be FREE of charge.
What next?
Please let me know, preferably by e-mail, if you are interested and your bothy preference. I'll then keep in touch with everyone interested and finalise a plan.
