Easter Weekend Trip to Invergarry
from Friday 14 to Monday 17 April 2017

Possible maps required are LandRanger 33 Loch Alsh, Glen Shiel & surrounding area and 34 Fort Augustus & Glen Albyn area,
but you may need others if you're walking further afield.

This is now a past outing .. you can read about it soon!

For this trip, the club will be visiting the Glen Garry area and basing ourselves at the Saddle Mountain Hostel at Mandally on the outskirts of Invergarry.  This area is an ideal base for exploring Glen Garry, the Great Glen and possibly Glen Shiel.

There will be plenty to do, with the usual hillwalking, forest walks and cycling trails .. and I've attempted to list some of the main walks for your consideration.  The long distance footpath, The Great Glen Way, is a good option and would offer some low level walking.  I can provide more details on the various possibilities for those members attending the weekend nearer the time.

Travel will be by car pool as usual, to suit individual plans for the Friday.  Car sharing and any hill plans for the Friday can be discussed a few days beforehand.  If you have any specific plans let me know so I can inform other members.  If you plan on travelling on the Friday night, I’ll put you in touch with others travelling at the same time.

Proposed Routes

There are plenty of walking opportunities in the area for all grades of walker.  Below are a few suggestions, but the final decision will probably be made over a drink the night before.  For anyone not wanting a big walk there are plenty of other activities such as cycling and even scenic drives!

High Routes:

From Loch Quoich:
Sgurr a’ Mhaoraich (1027m); Gairich (919m); Gleouraich (1035m) and Spidean Mialach (996m).

From Glen Shiel:
Possibly the South Shiel Ridge?

Intermediate Routes:

Sgurr nan Eugallt (894m)  GR931045.
Ben Tee (901m)  GR241972.
Meall Dubh (788m)  GR245079.

Low Routes:

Walk into Knoydart (Barrisdale).
Sections of the Great Glen Way such as Invergarry to Fort Augustus.
Inchnacardoch Forest walks.
Plus lots more........

All plans can be discussed in more detail over the weekend, but further information on any routes can be provided in advance by contacting me.

As already stated, it's planned to stay at the Saddle Mountain Hostel at Glengarry.  We've stayed there before and it has good facilities.  I've booked the last 6 places.

The approximate cost of the accommodation will be £60 for the three nights. Bedding is provided. There may be a club subsidy, which will reduce the price, but this has yet to be agreed with the club Treasurer.

For club members who don’t fancy hostel accommodation, the Invergarry Hotel is close by and currently has rooms available.  If you fancy this option, I would recommend you book your accommodation directly with the hotel.

Transport costs will be covered by passengers coming to an arrangement with the driver.  If you’re prepared to drive, please let me know.

What next?

If you're interested in joining this trip please e-mail me.  An early reply would be appreciated to enable bookings to be confirmed.

After all that, I'll hopefully see you at Glen Garry ....
