Day Trip to the Solway Coast
on Saturday 25 April 2020
The map required is LandRanger 84 Dumfries & Castle Douglas,
but you can download and print a useful section below ....
Meeting Point and Route
This is a low-level route, walking along the Solway Coast from Sandyhills to Kippford .. last enjoyed in May 2003 .. with the possibility of visiting Rough Island if the tide is in our favour.
We'll meet in the car park at Sandyhills at 10am (DG5 4PT for satnavs) which will give enough time (after leaving Glasgow around 8am) to leave a car at Kippford for use at the end of the walk. The driving route is M74 to J15 (Moffat), A701 to the Dumfries ring road, A711 to Dalbeattie and A710 to Sandyhills .. where it's a pay car park with a daily charge of £2 last time I knew, so have a few £1 coins ready! If anyone wants a lift, or to car share, please let me know and I can make arrangements.
We'll be walking southwestwards from Sandyhills to Castlehill Point, then turning northwestwards for Rockliffe and Kippford. If the tide is out, we can walk the causeway and have a short exploration of Rough Island .. just before the disallowed months of May and June.
After the walk, we can take refreshments at the Anchor Hotel .. and drivers can be returned to Sandyhills to collect their cars.

If you'd like to join this relatively easy coastal walk, please let me know by Thursday 23rd April so that I can arrange any transport required.
