Day Trip to a section of
the Fife Coastal Path (Boarhills to Crail)
on Saturday 28 April 2018
The map required is LandRanger 59 St Andrews, Kirkcaldy & Glenrothes,
but you can download and print the route section below ....
This is now a past outing .. you can read about it soon!
This low level walk further continues the Club’s exploration of the Fife Coastal Path ....
Leaving the Glasgow area around 8.30am, it'll take about 2 hours to drive to Crail where there should be space to leave the cars in Marketgate. The Stagecoach 95 bus leaves from around the corner in St Andrews Road at 10.50 for the short trip up to Boarhills .. 10-15mins to Boarhills road end. Please note on a Saturday the bus service is hourly and the next bus would be at 11.50 .. so we have to be in Crail in good time to get booted up and round to the bus stop by say 10.45am.
Walking north from the bus stop at Boarhills road end, we'll pick up the familiar Fife Coastal Path (FCP) signs in less than 1km and then follow the path south-east via Kingsbarns to Fife Ness where the Coastal Path turns south west towards Crail. This is one of the more remote sections of the FCP with a variety of wildlife and wildflowers to be spotted.
There is one section of the route just south of Cambo Sands which may not be passable at high tide .. the estimate at the moment is high tide at 2.11pm at Fife Ness, so I reckon we should just make it.
A spot for refreshments has not yet been selected for our arrival back in the bustling port of Crail but I am sure that by April there will be a tea-room or pub willing to welcome us.
The route can be shortened by around 5km if started from Kingsbarns.
|Distance||15 km (9.3 mls).|
|Total ascent||Virtually none.|
|Likely time||4 - 4˝ hours.|

If you would like to take part in this low-level outing, please let me know, preferably by e-mail, no later than Wednesday 25 April, and I'll organise some car-sharing if required ....
Hope to see you on the day!
