October Day to The Cobbler
October Weekend to Arran
Cornel picked me up and we drove to Ardossan to get the ferry for Arran. Parking the car we headed in to wait for the ferry. It had been overcast on the drive down, but as we crossed to Brodick, the cloud started to lift off the hills.
On arrival, we got the bus to Corrie, and leaving our bags at the hotel, set off in sunshine for Goat Fell. The good weather was not to last and the cloud came down and the summits were again covered. We returned via North Goatfell.
Gordon, Andrew, David and Heidi had arrived by the time we got back. After checking in and cleaning up we all met in the bar for a drink before dinner. Mark arrived in time for dinner and finally James and Alasdair arrived having got the last ferry.
On Saturday we awoke to rain and wind. We had a late start as we were getting the bus to Pirnmill. Full waterproofs were donned before getting the bus. On arrival we took the path for Beinn Bharrain. Due to the heavy rain we had to search for a place to cross the river but eventually managed it. Heidi decided to turn back and walked to Lochranza before getting the bus.
We continued up to the 717 point before heading down and up to the summit. On arriving the usual photos were taken and then Gordon’s completion of the Grahams was celebrated with whisky, banana loaf and shortbread.
The descent was at a leisurely pace as we knew that we would have to wait for the bus. By the time we arrived at Pirnmill it had stopped raining, allowing some photos to be taken.
We got the bus back and after showering, we headed for dinner. Gordon was presented with a certificate to commemorate his achievement as well as a bottle of malt and a card signed by us. He was also given several other presents and cards.
On Sunday, we were all getting the early ferry back so had time for a late breakfast before catching the bus back to Brodick and the ferry home.
