As we were about to set off, a wee note arrived ....
Well, the second MegaBag is here and we wish our ambassadors bon voyage with a special mention for one particular convener .. ENJOY, although it ain't been easy (just a slight understatement ...)!
To .. in alphabetical order .. Arlene, Allan, Andy, Bob, 'Big' Dave, Duncan, Ian, Janet, Mark and Willie I say "wear your Club logos with pride", and if anyone stops to say they like it, just tell them you know a man with some badges still to sell.
Enjoy the crack, the music, the soda bread, the Irish stew, the potato cakes, the stout, the whiskey and of course, the MOUNTAINS. In Wicklow you'll be able to recognise an Irish hippy by their flared wellingtons, and when in Mitchelstown keep a look-out for their new fire engine. I've been told the local councillors were wondering what to do with the old one, so they decided to keep it for false alarms.
Remember when driving to watch out for dogs .. you should note that Irish dogs have flat faces from chasing parked cars. Be on your guard also for the Irish conman at the Blarney Stone .. I recently heard he sold a £10 parking ticket to a Scot for £5.
In Killarney, don't ask their local explorer MacGillycuddy for advice about the Reeks. I was told he paid £10 for a sheet of sandpaper. He thought it was a map of the Sahara Desert!
Dingle has a sad tale, and I expect nothing but the utmost respect for the town's haemophiliac who tried to to cure himself by acupuncture. Arlene, keep your eyes peeled in Newcastle for Irish solicitors .. they're the ones in pin-striped donkey jackets and charcoal-grey wellies.
Finally, I feel it's only fair to tell you that Andy had me confirm some flight details with Ryanair. When I asked the pilot for his height and position he replied, "I'm five foot four and I'm in the front seat"!
Have a good one ....
Coinneach
Thanks, Coinneach! I had indeed taken my refresher
course in Irish Gaelic .. "Brush up your Erse".
And off we went to Prestwick for the short flight to Dublin. Click the map

The day trip was to the Taynuilt
area when Ben Sgulaird was ascended by one group.
No report was submitted,
but two pics were ....
The Newsletter contained the following note ...
"This was another good turnout, but at one point we thought we might not make it as George the driver was on a go-slow. We finally got walking at 11.15am. The weather was excellent .. perhaps a bit too warm. The main group tackled Beinn Sgulaird .. trying to keep up with Kenny as I believe. A couple of stalwarts climbed Creach Bheinn, a Corbett next to Beinn Sgulaird, and the remainder took the ferry from Port Appin to Lismore for a short walk at the north end of the island. The only problem of the day was that there was no pub close by, so George was persuaded to drive up a narrow lane to a hotel which wasn't open, and had to reverse all the way back to the main road. At this stage he was on Grumpy Factor 2 .. one under the maximum! We managed a quick drink at Taynuilt followed by a drive back to Glasgow at Warp Factor 6."
The weekend trip was to Alltbeithe
Youth Hostel in Glen Affric, with a traverse of the Conbhairean group as a
walk-in.
Again no report, but a couple of pics ....
Any recollections of the trip .....?
